Siri Devi Kapoor died at the age of 54. She went to the UAE with her family to attend the marriage ceremony of her nephew Mohit Marwah. On 24 Feb, during the ceremonies, her dead body was found in the hotel washroom. The early reason for her death was announced as heart failure, but later the Dubai Police released her postmortem report which showed for her death came from drowning in the bathtub. Traces of alcohol were also found in her blood. Her death was heartbreaking. It shocked the Indian film industry and shook all of her numerous fans around the world.
Siri Devi Kapoor was one of the biggest names in Bollywood. She was extremely beautiful and a famous Indian silver screen star. She was an actress, film producer and recipient of five film fare awards. Her great achievements are the proof of her being one of the great queens of the entertainment industry. Her real name was Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan. But professionally she was known as Siri Devi, Chandni and Hawa Hawai after two of the films she acted in. She was born in Tamil Nadu on 13 August 1963. Siri Devi started her film career in 1969 when she was just of six years and won her first Film Fare award in 1971 for the best child artist. She was introduced as a heroin in 1979 and remained the highest paid Hindi film actress in India from 1985 to 1992. She also starred in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films.
She cted in 80 movies during her career: Chandni, Mr. India, Chaal Baaz, Nagina, English Vinglish, Khuda Gawah, Judaai, Gumrah and Laadla are among few of her famous movies. And made her comeback with English Vinglish in 2012. Mom, her last movie was shot in 2017.
Siri Devi was a legendary figure and her untimely death is a huge loss to the whole of South Asia and beyond. May her soul rest in peace.
